SuperWoman Succumbs to Global Warming

October 14, 2011

SuperWoman gives up.

It is the middle of October, and everything is sticky. Sticky leaves, sticky streets. Sticky countertops and wooden tables. The floor, especially, exudes a gumminess. Even her children have developed a greasy film.

Everything is dirty, and who the hell has the time—or desire—to clean it? (Except the ants, who will outlive us all.)

500 years ago, SuperWoman saw a play in London that was hugely entertaining. (His last name was Spear-something.) She learned that when the king and queen fairies are fighting, everything in nature gets out of whack.

Take a look at this:

SuperWoman’s people can’t get a break from those fighting fairies, it seems. A couple of months ago, they delivered a hurricane, and next, a few hundred tons of rain. Now, the pumpkins and apples and tomatoes haven’t come to proper harvest because of wet, stuffy air.

The fairies are so pissed, they’ve called in Humidity. And Humidity makes everything her bitch.

Please, fairies, SuperWoman prays. Have mercy. I will do your fairy deeds.

But the fairies don’t answer.

So now, SuperWoman is drained of all her powers. Laser beams, gone. Positive attitude, a withered mess. Omniscience, purely a fantasy.

She is lying on the couch, one hand over her eyes, unable to smile. The gold in her cape has faded, the gems in her headband transformed to a dusty grey.

Will she survive this day?

The stickiness is draining. Oh, how I know. Just don’t ever come to Houston. Today we’re having a nice dry day, but recently the humidity has mocked us as we walk on cracked earth by dying trees. Global warming is certainly bringing us to our knees too.

And how frizzy is her hair? The weather here has been very warm and humid too – but for CA, humid means probably 30% so I’ll keep it all in perspective. Still, half way thru October and it’s reaching the high 80s is too much for me.

Humidity bites. Would you like to come to the desert where the high today will be a 100 degrees? I am so so so ready for anything resembling fall.

I am very glad to be out of the humidity and into the crisp weather. If it could just stay crisp and skip the freezing, cold that is coming I would be so happy. Do you have that power Superwoman??? (Please say yes)
